Olympic Modern Pentathlon Overview

Modern pentathlon is an Olympic event that is made up of five other events: pistol shooting, epee fencing, 200 meter freestyle swimming, show jumping and a 3 kilometer cross-country race. This bizarre combination of events has been a part of every Olympics Games since 1912. The competition originally took place over several days but it is currently held in one day in an effort to be more fan-friendly. Fencing is the only event where competitors face each other one-on-one.
